On arrival at the clinic our Practice Manager
will take some personal details from you such as your name, address, date of
birth etc, in order to complete your patient record card.
This card will be completed at each and every
visit and allows the osteopath to maintain a record of your symptoms and
progress.
Your first consultation with an Osteopath will
last approximately 30-45 minutes. You will be asked a series of questions about
your health, past and present, as well as about your work and interests to build
up an accurate picture of your complaint.
The osteopath will need to carry out a physical examination and assessment,
which may require the removal of some outer clothing. This will enable the
osteopath to accurately determine your
condition and its cause.
Once your condition has been properly
assessed, the osteopath will perform a hands-on treatment to enable your
condition to resolve.
You will be given an estimate of how many
treatments you require at this visit and, if necessary, a follow-up appointment
will be arranged.
Your osteopath will talk to you throughout
your treatment and you should be made to feel at ease. Do feel free to ask
questions during your consultation if you are unsure.
Some patients experience soreness after
treatment, similar to that felt after unaccustomed exercise. This usually lasts
no more than 24 - 48 hours.
Most patients come to an osteopath without having first consulted their doctor.
Osteopaths are trained to ensure that no serious problems are overlooked.
