Statutory Regulation
Osteopaths are regulated by the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) in much the same way that doctors have to answer to the General Medical Council.

In May 2000, the title 'osteopath' became protected by law. As a result it is a criminal offence, liable to prosecution, to practice as an osteopath in the UK unless registered with the GOsC.

All our Osteopaths are registered with the General Osteopathic Council.

The GOsC regulates, promotes and develops the profession of osteopathy, maintaining a Statutory Register of those entitled to practice osteopathy. Only practitioners meeting the high standards of safety and competency are eligible to join this register. Proof of good health, good character and professional indemnity insurance cover is also a requirement.

Qualifications
An osteopath must undertake a minimum of four years honours degree studies underpinned by thorough clinical training. In the UK, all qualified osteopaths have DO or BSc (Hons) Ost. or similar after their name.

Once qualified, osteopaths must commit to continuous personal development.
