Osteopathy for babies and children
Osteopathy
Osteopathy recognises that much of the pain and disability we suffer stems from
abnormalities in our body's structure and functions. Osteopaths diagnose and
treat problems with muscles, ligaments, nerves and joints to help the body's
natural healing ability.
Osteopaths do not use drugs or surgery. Treatment involves gentle, manual
techniques - easing pain, reducing swelling and improving mobility. Often this
involves manipulation which can result in an audible 'crack' which is simply the
sound of gas bubbles popping in the fluid of the joints.
Cranial Osteopathy
Cranial Osteopathy is a refined and subtle type of Osteopathic treatment that
uses very gentle, though highly effective, manipulative pressure to encourage
the release of stresses throughout the head and body.
The
Osteopath uses their highly trained sense of touch to identify and correct
mechanical disturbances and limitations both in and around the joints in the
skull and throughout the body. Cranial Osteopathy is extremely effective in
treating a wide range of conditions in people of all ages, from birth to old
age.
Osteopaths may have different specialities
including sports injuries, paediatrics, and visceral osteopathy (treating the
internal organs of the body). Cranial osteopathy embraces all of these.
Osteopathy for babies and children
Birth is one of the most stressful events of our life. The
baby’s head has the remarkable ability to absorb these stresses in a “normal”
delivery. Some baby’s retain moulding from birth in their head and areas of
stress and strain throughout their body. This may lead to:
· crying irritable baby

· feeding difficulties
· sickness, colic and wind
· sleep disturbances
In toddlers and older children retained moulding can lead to
other problems like:
· recurrent infections of the ears, chest, throat and colds
· Headaches
· Asthma
· Behavioural problems and learning difficulties
· Sinus and dental problems
Cranial Osteopathy can help to relieve these problems and, in
doing so, improve the child’s development and quality of life
